Watercraft Owners – Did you know?

You can only register an offshore craft if you have a VHF radio, ICASA owner’s license and VHF Operator’s certificate. (A 29meg radio is no longer sufficient as a standalone unit).

According to Stan Walter, SADSAA’s National Safety Officer, if you have an existing VHF radio with operator’s license on your boat – it will still be valid and will continue to be acceptable for surveys done this year. New laws are expected around January 2017.

Before a CAT R Inland Skippers certificate is issued: skippers need 25 hours of on-water practical experience – if you attend a SAMSA accredited school, or 50 hours if you do not attend their lectures.

Comprehensive Subsidence and Landslip cover

Most Insurance policies automatically offer limited cover for Subsidence and Landslip – ‘contraction or expansion of clay and similar soil types due to its moisture or water content’ is excluded, being the greatest risk for subsidence and landslip.

If this cover is required, we can offer you full cover under this section for an additional premium and subject to a geological report. Contact our offices for further information.
